Thanks to this year’s abundant rains, some areas affected by desertification have turned into a wonderful floreal display, with lilies blooming everywhere.

Many national and foreign tourists are expected to flock in and admire the show. The last flowering had in occurred three years ago.

Desert lilies belong to the Hesperocallis family, which also grow in the desert areas of northwestern North America, northwestern Mexico, California and Arizona. In Africa, and in particular in some areas of Namibia and Botswana, they are known as Sandhof lilies.

“Everyone is invited: this is a unique site in Namibia because there is no other area in this country that has about 770 continuous hectares of lilies” – explains Herculus Jantze, regional councilor.
