A good question…when we carefully look around us, we find many examples of selfishness in our daily lives. But we can also come across plenty of good people who dedicate themselves to others, who wouldn’t hurt a fly, people who are ready to help selflessly… it’s a phenomenon that has certainly been growing in recent decades. But in order to realize this, we have to look around ourselves in real life and try not to stop at what the terrorism of power controlled media constantly tries to tell us…
If instead we look at those powers that govern our politics and our economy, we immediately get a far darker picture: a context in which everything is dominated by predation and an evident lack of scruples.
It is increasingly clear that the power front is still predatory and that it generally presents itself in two ways: the first uses forms of control that are based on the concentration of our negative feelings, which leverage individual or national selfishness. The other form of power specializes in manipulating our good sentiments, in order to convince us to support an entity that “pretends” to represent our best aspirations, while obtaining our consent. There are also mixed forms of these two approaches.
Whichever the form, it always comes with the intent to obtain consensus in governing us, which in turn allows these “vampire” powers to continue to dominate us.
We often hear some reiteration of Joseph de Maistre’s famous saying, “Every nation gets the government it deserves”… but it’s only partially correct.
It is true if we consider the ability of these dark powers to obtain consent from our worst side, or our most unaware and naive side. In that sense we can say that governments correspond to the sum of the dark or unconscious sides of the people.
But they do not correspond at all to people as bearers of goodness and awareness. These ancient powers are very capable of coagulating selfishness and ingenuity. However, they are not concerned with coagulating our good and conscious sides, which are not organized.
The future of politics and economics lies precisely in the free organization of the good, loving and aware sides of humanity.
But this is something that the powers that still dominate us will never want to do…
We will have to do it ourselves, starting now, because there are good people out there. Awareness of the manipulations of power is already spreading, though it’s still in its infancy. It needs to grow, deepen and connect in self-organized networks. It can no longer be guided by old and new demagogues.
If we deserve these rulers, it’s only because they serve to awaken our consciousness: they are the striking demonstration of how not to do things.
People are better than power… we just need more awareness to free us from its manipulations.
So let’s spread it!
One day, power will no longer be the sum of our dark sides… but the operational harmony of our best parts. It will no longer be called power, but a self-governing web of conscious beings.
